Paris hosts the unveiling of Philips’ innovative new phone module, equipped with a VGA camera, Nexperia mobile image processor, and Philips LCD color display. This integrated module, which combines imaging and display building blocks in one unit, offers significant power-saving benefits, reducing stand-by power consumption by approximately 20 to 30%. Unlike traditional camera modules, the Philips Nexperia mobile image processor doesn’t require its own RAM, ensuring optimized camera and display performance.

The module’s driving scheme utilizes innovative technologies, including “dot-inversion, common voltage modulation, and interlacing schemes,” to deliver a low-power consumption solution with exceptional front-of-screen performance. Johan van de Ven, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Philips’ mobile display systems unit, emphasized the module’s potential for mid-end basic phone applications.
