Google is rolling out Gemini-powered contextual smart replies for Gmail on Android and iOS, suggesting more refined and situation-specific automated responses based on email threads. Users can preview and modify suggested replies before sending and access the feature on some Google subscriptions.
Google’s latest Gmail feature is rolling out, enhancing email replies with the introduction of Gemini-powered contextual smart replies on both Android and iOS. This eagerly-awaited feature suggests replies based on the context of conversations, making email responses faster and more convenient.
Gmail has supported smart replies since 2017, but these earlier versions were limited and struggled to understand the conversation context. The new upgrade offers more nuanced and situation-specific automated responses.
When replying to an email, users will see a carousel of three distinct smart replies. These options will be generated based on the entire email thread, catering to different communication styles with various tones. Users can preview the content of each suggested response by long-pressing on it and add it to the email with a tap. Each generated reply will also include a suitable greeting and closing.
Before sending a reply, users can make any necessary adjustments to the generated text, ensuring the final message perfectly aligns with their intentions.
This feature will be available to Gemini Business, Education, Education Premium, Enterprise, and Google One AI Premium subscribers.
