Zong, Pakistan’s leading cellular provider, has launched its 4G network in Gilgit Baltistan, marking a significant milestone in the region’s digital development. The launch event celebrated the activation of 59 4G sites, with plans for further expansion. Zong aims to empower local communities, enhance connectivity, and contribute to socio-economic development.
Pakistan’s leading cellular and digital services provider, Zong, has officially launched its network in Gilgit Baltistan, marking a significant milestone in the region’s digital development. The launch event was held at the prestigious Gilgit Serena Hotel, featuring prominent dignitaries as guests.
The ceremony commemorated the commercial activation of 59 4G sites across the region, with plans for further expansion next year. Zong’s presence in Gilgit Baltistan aims to empower local communities, enhance connectivity, and contribute to the region’s socio-economic development.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Miss Suraya Zaman, Advisor IT for Gilgit Baltistan’s government, Mr. Gul Abid Wazir, Zonal Director PTA Gilgit, and Secretary IT Riaz Ahmad from the government. The prominent attendance underscores the strong partnership between the public and private sectors in advancing digital infrastructure.
Khawaja Shehzad Ullah, Executive Director of Sales & Distribution at Zong, emphasized the importance of connectivity in the region. He stated, “We’re thrilled to bring Zong 4G’s high-speed internet to Gilgit Baltistan. This reflects our commitment to bridging Pakistan’s digital divide, empowering local communities, and supporting economic growth.”
Huo Junli, Zong’s CEO, commended the teams that made the expansion possible, praising the role of local, national, and international collaborators. He noted that, by enabling 4G services in Gilgit Baltistan, Zong contributes to Pakistan’s digital transformation, enhances regional economic development, and supports global projects like the Belt and Road Initiative.
Zong recognized the crucial support from SCO and PTA for establishing advanced communication networks in the region. The launch cements Zong’s role in driving inclusive connectivity in all regions of Pakistan and supporting the national digital agenda.
