Intel is set to announce designs for future mobile phones and strike key deals with major network operators and manufacturers in Europe and Taiwan, aiming to merge the mobile industry with computer economics. According to Otellini, Intel is already in talks with all top ten mobile phone makers regarding the use of its chips in future handsets, with Motorola and Samsung currently being the only ones using Intel chips in a limited capacity.

In private meetings at the 3GSM World Congress, Intel is showcasing designs for two generations of phones, one expected to hit the market this year and another set to launch in 2005. Intel officials explain that the company plans to differentiate its phones by integrating technology that has been shipped in its computer chips for nearly a decade, which will significantly simplify the process of transferring computer data between mobile phones.
