Atrua Technologies, a Silicon Valley-based start-up backed by tech giants, has launched its first product: a mobile phone touchpad with built-in fingerprint recognition. The “Atrua Wings” technology allows for secure wireless transactions and simplified sign-ins, and phones with the feature will be on the market by the end of the year.

Atrua Technologies, a start-up backed by top names in technology and telecommunications, has unveiled its first product – a mobile phone touchpad with built-in fingerprint recognition as a security feature.
The company, formerly known as I-Control Security Inc., is headquartered in Silicon Valley and was funded in 2000 by Nokia Venture Partners, Ericsson Venture Partners, Acer Technology Ventures, Intel Capital, Osprey Ventures, and mc3 Ventures.
Atrua’s product, called “Atrua Wings,” works like a laptop touchpad, allowing users to scroll through menus and choose items with the touch of a finger. The same sensor also acts as a fingerprint reader, increasing the security of wireless transactions and simplifying the sign-in process on secure websites. Atrua’s unique software algorithms and a small, low-power, cost-effective finger imaging sensor simplify device interaction and enhance the functionality of mobile devices such as cellular phones, PDAs, and mobile PCs.
Manufacturing of the product is set to begin in the second quarter, with phones featuring the Wings technology expected to hit the market by the end of the year.
