Nokia has faced stiff competition from major players like Ericsson and Huawei in recent years, but the Finnish company still holds significant sway in the network infrastructure industry. Samsung, too, has a Radio Access Network (RAN) branch, although its market share is relatively small, at around 6.1% last year.

In fact, Samsung is reportedly eyeing a big move to strengthen its RAN position. Rumors suggest the company is looking to acquire Nokia’s infrastructure business, with a speculated price tag of $10 billion. If the deal goes through, Samsung would become the second-largest RAN supplier worldwide, with a 25.6% market share.

Samsung already has a presence in the infrastructure business, having supplied carriers globally with 4G and 5G base stations, chipsets, devices, radios, and core equipment. Its clients include Telus Canada, O2 in Germany, Reliance Jio in India, KDDI and NTT DoCoMo in Japan, Dish and Verizon in the US, and Vodafone in the UK.
