Canadian technology company ATI Technologies Inc. has announced the launch of the IMAGEON 2260, a high-performance multimedia processor designed to provide advanced video and imaging capabilities to mobile phones.

IMAGEON 2260 is a highly integrated multimedia co-processor that empowers handset manufacturers with significant power, space, and material cost savings. This solution provides fully self-contained graphics, video, and imaging capabilities to seamlessly complement communication baseband solutions.

KEY FEATURES:

Support for high-quality MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services);
Still picture capture and processing (JPEG encode and decode) with support for high-resolution (megapixel) camera modules;
Video recording, playback, and streaming up to CIF (352 x 288 pixels) at 30 frames-per-second;
Advanced 2D graphics acceleration;
Integrated frame buffer and LCD controller for optimal performance; and
Excellent visual quality and display features.

ATI’s IMAGEON 2260 media co-processor has entered mass production shipment in the second quarter of 2004, enabling advanced multimedia capabilities in handsets across the globe. With these features, manufacturers can now create multimedia-rich handheld devices that rival high-end mobile phones and digital still cameras.
