The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has officially clarified that reports of widespread closures of ATMs across Pakistan are completely exaggerated and unfounded. The latest statement from the authority assured citizens that there is no current issue that will impact the IT or financial sector, including ATMs.
The clarification comes on the same day that a document presented in Parliament revealed a looming crisis in the nation’s telecom sector, where if all Long Distance International (LDI) licenses are not renewed, up to 50% of mobile traffic could be disrupted. However, the PTA’s renewed licenses are not affected as licensing operations are not suspended, with over 50% of licenses yet valid.
The authority’s concerns on withholding license renewals are mainly raised due to outstanding dues worth ₹24 billion from Universal Service Funds and ₹54 billion in late payment fees from telecom companies. LDI permits have already expired for some firms while it is expected that some due to expire in the coming months.
Pertaining to these factors mentioned above, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has officially clarified and quashed the rumors surrounding potential close-downs of ATM infrastructure across Pakistan, giving customers’ a sigh of relief while easing concerns about any prospective difficulties in the financial and telecommunication front.
