Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone is departing from traditional naming conventions, opting instead for a more distinctive title. The device, known as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, will boast a 6.5-inch outer screen and an expansive 8-inch inner display, according to renowned leakster Evan Blass.

Blass also revealed the device’s dimensions, noting that it will measure a mere 4.9mm thick when unfolded, expanding to a still-svelte 10.6mm when folded. This slim profile makes the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition a formidable contender in the foldable smartphone arena, edging significantly closer to the slim designs of rivals like the Honor Magic V3 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4.

While Samsung’s new offering may not quite match the featherlight dimensions of its competitors, it represents a significant step forward in thinness compared to previous iterations, including the latest Z Fold 6. However, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition may face a significant hurdle: limited availability. Multiple sources suggest that Samsung’s thinner foldable smartphone may only be released in Korea and China, which could impact its global appeal.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is rumored to debut in Korea in September, followed by a Chinese release in October.
