X is developing a video conferencing tool called X Conference, a new feature part of its plan to evolve into an ‘everything app’. The social media giant is testing the tool internally, with one X employee, Chris Park, sharing details on the platform.
According to Park, X Conference is still in its early stages and offers basic multi-person video conferencing capabilities, falling short of advanced features in established services like Zoom or Google Meet. However, the tool is set to receive notable upgrades, including the ability to pin speakers and enhanced notifications, Park claims.
X Conference may pose a formidable competitor to established platforms like Google Hangouts, Zoom, AWS Chime, and Microsoft Teams, according to Park. Another app researcher, Nima Owji, also shared a screenshot revealing that the platform is expected to support spatial audio and offer built-in captions.
Despite these impressive features, questions remain about the demand for another video conferencing tool. It’s unclear whether X plans to roll out X Conference to end users in the future.
