Google Pixel 9 Pro review

Here is a summary of the content in 50 words:

The Google Pixel 9 Pro features a 48MP telephoto camera, 42MP selfie camera, and 6.3-inch OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. It also has 21W wireless charging, 16GB of RAM, and Ultra Wideband support, all packed into a compact body.

Here is a rewritten version of the content without the first line “Here is the…”:

We’ve already taken a look at the Google Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro XL, which stand at the two ends of the spectrum in the new Pixel 9 lineup. Now it’s time to dive deeper into the Pixel 9 Pro, which delivers all the “Pro” features without the “XL” size.

Despite being in the same footprint as the regular Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro packs a surprising amount of hardware. With dimensions of 152.8 x 72 x 8.5 mm, it’s quite compact by today’s standards, and is only a single gram heavier than its non-Pro sibling, weighing in at 199 grams.

The Pro model adds a 48MP, 5x optical zoom periscope telephoto camera, which joins the 50MP main cam and the 48MP ultrawide. It also upgrades the selfie camera to a 42MP snapper. The display has been improved, with a higher resolution (1280 x 2856 pixels), higher brightness, and LTPO tech for more dynamic refresh rate adjustment.

Other upgrades include 21W wireless charging support with the Pixel Stand, 16GB of RAM, and Ultra Wideband (UWB) support. The battery remains the same at 4,700 mAh, which is a bit less than last year’s big Pixel 8 Pro model, but still respectable.

The phone ships in a recycled paper box with a sleeve, and includes a USB-C cable. There’s also an official Pixel 9 case available for €40, which fits snugly on the phone and isn’t too intrusive.

Google chose flat to be the theme with the Pixel 9 phones – flat glass front, back, and flat sides. The frame is a polished metal that picks up fingerprints in no time, but looks posh and premium.

Our Pixel 9 Pro unit is the dignified and understated black color, officially known as Obsidian.

Compared to last year’s Pixel models, the 9 Pro has a faster Tensor G4 chipset, 16GB of RAM, and an ever-so-slightly bigger display. The camera system is very similar to last year’s Pixel 8 Pro, but the ultrawide angle camera has a significantly brighter lens, and the selfie shooter is a big upgrade at 42MP.

Stay tuned for our full review.
