43.7 million Wrist Wearables Shipped in Q2, Huawei Leads Global Market

IDC has released its latest wearable device tracker data, revealing a total of 43.7 million wrist wearables (smartbands and smartwatches) shipped worldwide during the second quarter of the year.

Huawei stood out with a remarkable 42% year-on-year growth rate, with 8.9 million global shipments and a market share of 20.3%. This impressive growth propelled Huawei to the top of the global market.

China was the driving market for wearables, with Huawei shipping an estimated 6 million devices and increasing its market share to 38.4%. Notably, despite Huawei’s success, the global smart wearables market saw a slight 0.7% decline compared to the same period last year.

Huawei’s Watch Fit 3 played a significant role in its growth, driving demand globally. Additionally, the brand expanded its market share across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America.

Xiaomi came in second with 5.9 million shipments and a market share of 13.5%, driven by its entry-level Redmi series and premium devices like the Watch S3 and Watch 2.

Apple came in third with 5.7 million shipments and a 13.1% market share, seeing a 12% decline in shipments compared to the same period last year, likely due to fierce competition from its Chinese rivals.

Samsung shipped 3.3 million wearables during the period, with the Galaxy Fit 3 being the key growth driver. BBK rounded out the top five with 2.9 million shipments and a market share of 6.6%, fueled by strong demand for its kids’ watch models in China.
