HMD Fusion is a new smartphone with modular design, allowing users to add features like wireless charging and a ring light via interchangeable “Fusion outfits”. The device features a 6.56-inch screen, 108MP camera, and 5,000mAh battery, with pricing starting at €249 in Europe, followed by the US.
The newest addition to the HMD Fusion series, the HMD Fusion, aims to revolutionize the modular smartphone design with its innovative Fusion outfits. These interchangeable covers can add a range of features, from wireless charging to rugged protection or a ring light for live streaming.
The covers attach via Smart Pins on the back of the device, and HMD is offering an open-source development toolkit for users to 3D print their own designs. The first-party Fusion outfits will be available for purchase later in Q4.
The device features a semi-transparent plastic shell, allowing for easy repairs similar to the HMD Skyline. The shell provides fast access to the battery, screen, and other key components. HMD is also committing to offer spare parts via iFixit for the next seven years.
The HMD Fusion boasts a 6.56-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 50MP selfie camera. The back features a 108MP main shooter and a 2MP depth helper, with the main sensor featuring electronic image stabilization, a dedicated night mode, and AI HDR.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. Storage expansion is supported via a microSD card slot. The software side is covered by Android 14, with a promise of two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
Rounding out the specs is a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 33W charging. The HMD Fusion will start at €249 and will debut in Europe first, followed by a US release.
