Android 15 is out, but not for you

Android 15 is now fully baked but only available to developers at this time. The release is not yet available to the public, including those with Pixels, which won’t receive the update until “in the coming weeks”. Other devices will follow “in the coming months”.

Here’s a rewritten version of the content:

Android 15: The Wait Begins

Following months of developer previews and public betas, Android 15 has finally hit the stable version mark, but it’s not immediately available to the general public. Instead, Google has uploaded the source code to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and is making it available to developers.

Although the source code is live, update rollouts aren’t ready to hit devices just yet, even for Pixels. The current September update being pushed to Google’s smartphones remains based on Android 14, not Android 15. However, the search engine giant promises that the updated OS will land on its Pixel devices, including the newly launched Pixel 9 family, within the “coming weeks.”

Other major Android manufacturers like Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi can expect the new OS to roll out in the “coming months.” This timeline was initially forecasted to start with Android 15 landing on Pixels in October.

While device owners wait for their slice of the Android 15 pie, developers are encouraged to explore the AOSP code and utilize its benefits.
