Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the immediate closure of the National Information Technology Board (NITB). According to sources, the PM office has written a letter to Coordinator to the Prime Minister Rana Ihsan Afzal and Secretaries of relevant ministries regarding the digitization of the Prime Minister’s office and the implementation of E-Office.
During a recent meeting on the subject, the prime minister issued directions to implement E-Office in the Prime Minister’s Office/Secretariat within three days. The PM office has also directed the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication to initiate the legislative process for winding up NITB immediately, along with a plan for transferring its functions and assets.
The PM office has further directed relevant departments to link the Task Management System with the E-Office application, ensuring interoperability. A committee comprising Minister for Economic Affairs, Rana Ihsaan Afzal, Secretary Cabinet, and Minister of State for IT & Telecom will finalize a strategic vision for automation, along with a change management plan to achieve the vision.
It is worth noting that the rightsizing committee had previously proposed the closure of four departments, including NITB.
