Xiaomi is reportedly developing a buttonless smartphone, codenamed “Zhuque”, set for release in the first half of 2025. The phone will feature an under-display selfie camera and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4 SoC. It’s unclear what will replace traditional buttons, with speculation pointing to gesture controls, pressure-sensitive edges, or voice commands.
Rumors are swirling that Xiaomi is working on a buttonless smartphone, codenamed “Zhuque”, which is expected to hit the market in the first half of next year. One of the phone’s most distinctive features will be its complete lack of physical buttons.
While details are still scarce, speculation suggests that the phone may replace traditional buttons with gesture controls, pressure-sensitive edges, or voice commands. Huawei’s P30 Pro, for instance, came with virtual side buttons that users had to double-tap to adjust the volume.
The Zhuque is also rumored to feature an under-display selfie camera, which Xiaomi hopes will surpass Samsung’s attempts in this area. It’s also expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4 SoC, which will also reportedly be found in the Xiaomi 15S Pro, due for release between April and June 2025.
It’s unclear whether the Zhuque will win over consumers or remain a niche experiment, like Meizu’s Zero phone, which quickly disappeared from the market.
Separately, Xiaomi is reportedly working on a tri-folding phone, similar to Huawei’s upcoming device, which will allegedly be part of the Xiaomi Mix lineup and showcased in February next year.
