Authorities Crack Down on Fraud: 69,000 SIMs Blocked Linked to Fake and Cancelled ID Cards

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 69,000 SIMs issued against canceled or fake identity cards. These SIMs were identified after the August 16 deadline for biometric verification passed. To restore their SIMs, users must obtain new identity cards from NADRA and biometrically verify their SIMs with their mobile operator. PTA has also warned that SIMs issued against expired identity cards prior to 2017 will be blocked within a week unless renewed through NADRA and verified.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a significant step towards curbing illegal SIMs in the country by blocking 69,000 SIMs that were issued against canceled or fake identity cards. These SIMs were identified after the August 16 deadline for biometric verification passed, and were issued across the country against invalid or fraudulent identity documents.

To restore their blocked SIMs, users will need to obtain new identity cards from NADRA and then visit their mobile operator or franchise to get the SIM unblocked through biometric verification.

Additionally, PTA has warned that SIMs issued against expired identity cards prior to 2017 will be blocked within a week. To avoid this, users can renew their identity cards through NADRA and get their SIMs verified.
