Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun held his annual speech event earlier where he announced the company’s second foldable phone – the Mix Fold 2. Xiaomi is yet to comment on its availability outside of China but the Mix Fold 2 is looking mighty impressive.
Mix Fold 2 is one of the thinnest folding phones to date measuring in at just 5.4mm unfolded and 11.2mm in its closed state including the camera bump. For context, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is 6.3mm unfolded and 15.8 folded.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is a sleek foldable
Mix Fold 2 weighs 262 grams and features a refined Xiaomi-developed hinge that combines alloy and carbon fiber plates alongside a recessed center structure and compact layer design.
There’s a 6.56-inch AMOLED cover screen upfront with a 21:9 aspect ratio which is closer to what you’d find on a regular slab smartphone and that means typing should feel less cramped. It still refreshes at 120Hz and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Xiaomi also added a 20MP selfie camera housed in a punch hole.
The main 8-inch LTPO2 OLED features a 1914 x 2160 px resolution and a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate. It’s an Eco2 OLED display that removes the polarizer layer for better display transparency while also offering lower power consumption. The main display is HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified and boats Schott UTG glass for added durability. Peak brightness is rated at 1,300 nits.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset sits at the helm paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
Mix Fold 2 is the second phone to benefit from Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica and it gets a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor with OIS and Leica optics. Like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Mix Fold 2 gets Leica Authentic and Vibrant photographic styles as well as a handful of Leica filters. The back also houses a 13MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP telephoto module with 2x optical zoom.
Mix Fold 2 packs a 4,500 mAh battery with 67W fast wired charging and boots MIUI Fold 13 over Android 12.
